PROTEIN BASED BREAKFASTS-A healthier start to the day.

The nutrition plan at Body Fix Transformation Centre, York advises that changing to a protein based breakfast is one of the best decisions you can make to kick start new healthier eating habits.

Protein….
-Boosts the metabolism.
-Keeps you fuller for longer. Remaining in control of your appetite will help you make better food choices throughout the day.
-Is especially useful to re-fuel and repair your body after a morning work out.

Protein packed smoothies are always available from the Body Fix Health Store within the centre. They are ideal as a quick and nutritious breakfast. The Very Berry Smoothie contains PNI Lean Shake Plus protein powder, oats, almond milk, banana, cherries, blueberries and cinnamon.

It’s a good idea to try and fit vitamin boosting veg into your morning meal too. Green vegetables such as kale, which is rich in Vitamin C and Iron packed spinach work great in an omelette.

Avocado baked eggs

2 avocados
4 eggs
salt and pepper
optional toppings-feta or bacon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cut the avocados in half and carefully remove the pit. Put avocados open side up in a large baking dish. If they are small avocados, scoop out a little of the extra flesh to make more room.
Crack an egg in each avocado half and sprinkle with sea salt and pepper. Place in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the egg is as ‘done’ as you prefer.

Breakfast platter

2 fresh eggs
2 thin slices smoked salmon
Handful of rocket or spinach
1/4 avocado, diced
Squeeze of fresh lemon
Pinch of freshly ground pepper

Cook your eggs as you prefer.
While your eggs are cooking, mix up your rocket/spinach, avocado, and smoked salmon in a bowl. Squeeze lemon juice over everything, and sprinkle with pepper.
Enjoy immediately.

Overnight oats

-Mix equal amounts of oats and almond milk (or liquid of choice)
-Mix any spices, sweeteners, or dried fruit you wish into the oats and milk.
-Store in an airtight container and let the oats soak for at least three hours, preferably overnight.
-In the morning add fresh fruit, nuts or cocoa nibs to the oats
-Enjoy endless experiments with different flavour combinations.
